Editor's UPDATE April 3, 2008: Chinese human rights activist Hu Jia (胡佳) has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for "inciting subversion of state power". He has repeatedly campaigned for the rights of people with HIV/AIDS, for religious freedom, and for Tibetan autonomy, as well as for the environment, free speech and the release of political prisoners.
A number of people have tried bringing Jinyan and her daughter food and baby formula, but were denied entry.
